Pottukadalai Sambar / Fried Channa dhal sambar

Ingredients:

Pottukadalai - 3-4 Tsp. (finely powdered)
Onion - 1 medium size (finely chopped)
Tomatoes - 1 (finely chopped)
Green chillies -2 Nos. (cut length wise)
Chilly powder -1/4 Tsp.
Curry leaves -1 sprig
Coriander leaves - 2 Tsp. (chopped for garnishing)
Mustard seeds - 1/4 Tsp.
Urad dhal -1/4 Tsp.
Turmeric powder - 1/4 Tsp.
Asafoetida / Hing - pinch
Salt to taste
Oil

Method:

  • Grind the pottukadalai to a fine powder.
  • Mix the powder with water to a very thin consistency without any lumps.
  • Heat oil in kadai/pan and splutter mustard, urad dhal, curry leaves, hing powder.
  • Add onions and saute till golden then add green chillies, tomatoes.
  • Let the tomatoes smash then add chilly powder, turmeric, salt.
  • Now add pottukadalai water and cook for 12mins.
  • Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with idli, dosa.
